Every character is cut from the same slab: 20 cm tall, 6 cm deep, a tough polymer (yield 50 MPa).
A small finite-element model of each glyph's real outline finds how stiff it is, where stress piles up, and whether it crushes, bends, buckles or tips.
One rigid platen presses the whole word. When a glyph gives way, its load moves onto the others — sometimes they all go together.
